San Diego Museum of Art is the basic center of arts of various types and exhibits collections of fine arts which lasts more than 80 years. The Museum is located in the center of Balboa Park, located in San Diego city. The various galleries located inside the museum provide good scope to the budding artists of the present generation to get an insight about different forms of art through in-depth comprehension and assimilation. This also motivates the budding artists to interact with other forms of art and culture around the globe.
The Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, only Monday being a weekly holiday. The hours of operation from Tuesday to Sunday excluding Thursday is from 10 AM to 6 PM. Exception the operation hours take place from 10 AM to 9 PM. Apart from Monday, the museum remains closed on Thanks Giving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
The entry tariff is interesting. Those who are members of the museum are not charged at all. For the adult it is $ 10, for the seniors aged above 65 years and to the retired military personnel, the tariff comes down to $ 8. Students with identity cards are charged with $ 7 and the youths within the age groups from 6 years of age to 17 years of age, are charged $ 4. Children aged 5 years and below are not charged at all.
San Diego Museum of Art was set up in the year 1922. In that year a local business of the city named Appleton.S. Bridges decided to invest for construction of a permanent structure of a municipal art collection building. The site was selected in the year 1915. Later on the construction work started and finally the museum was opened. San Diego Art Museum was finally formed in the year 1925 after the merger of San Diego Arts Guild and the Friends of Art.
The Museum is managed by huge groups of working staffs starting from administration, accounting, curatorial, design and installation, curatorial till the security staff.
The development of the Museums takes place from various ways like donations from personal level, donations by visitors and donations by corporate personnel.
